The third Sunday in the month of June celebrates Father’s Day. This year, Father’s Day will be on Sunday June 18th, 2023. The role of a father can be fulfilled by an actual father, stepfather, grandfather, an uncle, the father to your children or even a mentor who impacted your life in this way. Father’s Day can also recognize the overall influence of fathers in our society and the impact they have had on our lives. The role of a father is significant in the parenting of a child and in the relationships we have.
The history of Father’s Day dates back to over a hundred years ago, but it was not recognized as a nationwide holiday in the United States until 1972. Other countries around the world also have a similar commemoration and some even celebrate in the month of June.
Father’s Day is a special day set aside to show the love you have for your father and to express your thankfulness to them for the role they have played in your life. Many people have established their own tradition for celebrating Father’s Day. These celebrations can be unique to each person and/or family. Celebrating Father’s Day could include sending him a card, spending time together, cooking dinner, buying a gift, mowing the lawn and much more. For those fathers who are no longer present, it can be a time to remember him or maybe complete a tradition in his honor. Whichever is your circumstance, enjoy your Father’s Day this year and make it special for the person you love!
