This position can be found at hospitals, long- term care facilities, medical clinics, rehab centers, and public health centers. Overall job duties can include scheduling, paperwork, transcribing physician orders, managing supplies and more. A health unit coordinator often works under the supervision of a doctor or nurse. Although a health unit coordinator is primarily a non-clinical position, knowledge of medical terminology, medical diseases, medication, and patient rights are all necessary for the position. As hospitals continue to grow and the medical field expands to accommodate ongoing health needs, health unit coordinators are a vital position to ensuring patient care.
