May Is Mental Health Awareness Month

May Is Mental Health Awareness Month

The month of May is dedicated to promoting awareness of mental health as well as fighting the stigma associated with it, by providing education and advocacy.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in five adults in the United States experienced a mental illness. Whether mental health has affected someone you love or is something you have experienced, it is important to recognize its impact on the people we love. We are continuing to learn the significance of mental health on our overall wellness and studying what specific factors affect it. Over the years, in the United States there has been great progress in lessening the stigma behind mental illness and helping to promote care and healing for it. Making the month of May dedicated to spreading awareness about mental health can help others to not feel alone in their situations. Connecting with other people about mental health can be a significant part of getting help and support. Offering mental health resources in schools, healthcare facilities, workplaces, extracurricular centers and fitness centers can help educate and provide support for people. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, please reach out to your healthcare provider or someone who can help you. There are many additional resources available through the National Alliance on Mental health below.
