May Is Mental Health Awareness Month

According to the Mental Health Awareness Organization’s website, 1 out of 5 people will experience a mental health illness. Mental illness impacts many people from all walks of life and throughout many age groups. Mental illness can look different for each person and can come and go throughout one’s life. The month of May is dedicated to promoting awareness about mental health. Whether you have personal experience with it or maybe it has affected someone you love, mental health is something we all should care about.
Over the years, America has made great progress in lessening the stigma behind mental illness and helping to promote care and healing for it. Making the month of May dedicated to spreading awareness about mental health can help others to not feel alone in their situations. Offering mental health resources in schools, healthcare facilities, workplaces, extracurricular centers, fitness centers and more, can help educate and provide support for people.
Connecting with other people about mental health is a significant part of getting help and support. How are you prioritizing your mental health this month and every month after? If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, please reach out to your healthcare provider or someone who can help you.
