Father’s Day

The third Sunday in the month of June celebrates Father’s Day, here in the United States.  This year Father’s Day will be on Sunday, June 21^st, 2020.  The history of Father’s Day dates back to over a hundred years ago, but it was not recognized as a nationwide holiday until the year of 1972.  Many other countries around the world also have a similar commemoration and some also celebrate in the month of June.
The role of a father can represent your actual father, stepfather, grandfather, an uncle, the father to your children, or a mentor who impacted your life in this way.  Father’s Day can also recognize the overall influence of fathers in our society and the impact they have had on our lives.  The role of a father figure is significant in the parenting of a child and in the relationships we have.  Father’s Day is a day set aside to show the love you have for your father and to express your thankfulness to them for the role they have played in your life.  Traditions of celebrating Father’s Day are special and can be unique to each person and/or family.  Celebrating Father’s Day can include sending him a card, spending time together, cooking him dinner, buying him a gift, mowing the lawn for him, and much more.  For those fathers who are no longer present, it can be a time to remember him or maybe complete a tradition in his honor.  Enjoy your Father’s Day this year and make it special!
