It is important to keep your own first-aid kit around your home, in your vehicle and outside in your work shed or garage for easy access.
Although no one expects to get injured, injuries happen and you want to be prepared. If you have a cell-phone, it is best to keep that on had if you are by yourself, so you can quickly call for help if your injury is serious. While help is on the way, a first-aid kit can go a long way to stabilizing your injury. For minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, burns, etc., a first-aid kit is a necessity. First-aid kits can be purchased at your local grocery or pharmacy. However, you may already have a lot of the tools inside a regular one, that you can gather and put together yourself. Here are some starter items to consider:
- Adhesive bandages
- Gauze pads or a roll for larger injuries
- Scissors for cutting any of your necessary equipment
- Rubbing alcohol
- Exam gloves to keep your injury as sanitary as possible
- Tweezers for getting out splinters
- Antibiotic ointment and hydrocortisone cream
- An eye wash bottle to rinse our your eye if a particle or substance gets into it
- Tape for adhering your larger bandages
If you have additional items that you know you would want or need, grab them and add them to your kit. Make sure to go through your kit once a year to refresh your out-of-
date items and replace any used items along the way.
