Diabetes Month

Diabetes MonthThe month of November is recognized as diabetes month. According to the American Diabetes Association, in the United States today, there are 34 million people diagnosed with diabetes and 88 million additional people who have prediabetes. Diabetes can effect the individual who has it, as well as loved ones who may be involved in their care. There are several types of diabetes which include type 1, type 2, gestational and prediabetes as well as other more rare forms that are caused by other conditions. With type 1 diabetes, your body does not produce insulin, whereas in type 2, your body is not using the insulin correctly. Gestational diabetes impacts a mother during pregnancy and her body has issues using the insulin being produced. Prediabetes happens when your body is showing high levels of blood sugar, but not high enough to be considered diabetes. The good news is that diabetes can be managed through medication, diet, exercise and the care of a health professional to assist in choosing the right options for your healthy lifestyle. There are many resources available to combat diabetes and manage it successfully. If you’re wondering what you can do to be a part of diabetes month, check out the source below. There are events happening across the United States that help to spread the word about diabetes as well as raise funding for it. You can even start your own event!
